Do you know of a aesthetically pleasing way to cover a washing machine?

My fiance and I are moving into a lovely little home in a tiny little town. The house was built in the 40s but was remodeled in the early 80s. We have a washing machine hook-up in our kitchen, which we are more than happy to use. I want to add a breakfast table in the kitchen because we have the room, and the light in there is lovely. The floors are white linoleum and the back splash and tile around the sink are a very light teal. I have more than enough storage space in the kitchen so that isn't an issue. I'm looking at pairing the teal with a burgundy as my color pallet. My problem is, while the kitchen is bigger than we're used to, the washing machine is a little unsightly and I'd like a way to cover it. If anyone has any ideas to hide it/dress it up that do not include remodeling, an ugly cover (that in my opinion just makes it look like a big trash bag), or a vinyl decal, I would love to hear it! Keep in mind our colors, that we have a somewhat limited budget, and that we are a very artsy couple and love to work on projects. Other notes: the washer is front load, it is between the refrigerator and the back door and there is nothing on the wall behind it. Ready-Set-Go!
