Should I keep growing my hair long or cut it fairly short?

My hair is curly (caucasian) and 3 inches past my shoulder when curly, four or five when straight. I'm torn between growing it hip length or going for a chin length bob. What should I do? What's more "in" and what do you prefer for curly hair? Also, which do you feel is more unique and artsy?
